Reading posts like this one makes me angry at all the inefficiencies of the current system. On the one extreme, you've got a significant number of kids who are wasting their time at school because the pace is too slow for them. On the other, you've got disadvantaged kids who could benefit from attending preschool and a longer school year later on. Why not accelerate the former so they can get through the curriculum in say 10-11 years rather than 13 and use the savings to pay for expanded time in school for the latter? It seems like a win-win all around that would require no increase in taxes.
