Have an idea of something worth investigating?

If you’re aware of a possible story to investigate inequity in education, we want to know about it.

What makes a good tip?

Our investigations aim to unearth wrongdoing and its consequences on real people. These stories have a group, company or agency to hold accountable. Good tips help direct us to specific problems and avoid speculation and rumors. Ideally, you’ll be able to provide some evidence or documentation to support your tip. If you are open to speaking with a reporter, be sure to include your contact information.

These tip lines are monitored by our investigation team. For regular story ideas, pitches, press releases or feedback on other stories, you can contact staff directly.

What kinds of investigations does Hechinger do?

We’re a nonprofit newsroom focused on education, from the early years through higher education. Within education, we’ll investigate just about anything that merits digging into, from child care centers to student discipline to cosmetology schools.
