On Wednesday, The Hechinger Report hosted a Twitter chat about teacher diversity with experts and educators, including Jose Luis Vilson, Andre Perry, Hannah Putman, Christopher Emdin, and Ashley Griffin.

In the wake of several reports highlighting high turnover rates among black educators, we wanted to dig into why this is happening and how teacher preparation programs, schools, administrators and other teachers can help reverse this trend.

Here is a Storify with some of the main questions and answers from the discussion. Check out the full conversation under the #teachdiverse hashtag on Twitter.

Since you made it to the bottom of this article, we have a small favor to ask.

If you believe stories like the one you just finished matter, please consider pitching in what you can. This effort helps ensure our reporting and resources stay free and accessible to everyone—teachers, parents, policymakers—invested in the future of education.

Thank you.
