In just 17 days, we’ve managed to raise $35,000 from individual readers like you to keep covering the topics we do best, from Common Core to preschool to first-generation college students.
But we’re not done yet. Our crowd-funding partner, Beacon, has agreed to continue matching every dollar we raise until we hit a total of $50,000! Help us shatter or original goal and also our all-time record for fundraising from individual donors.

With the extra money we raise, we will send photographers on at least eight additional stories in 2016. They say pictures are worth a thousand words, but we can’t afford to keep a full time photographer on staff. The money you donate today will help us to nearly double our freelance photography budget.
The Hechinger Report produces hundreds of stories (over 500 already this year) from classrooms and campuses across the country. Our small, but dedicated staff of expert reporters and editors operate on a frugal nonprofit budget to produce award winning stories reported on the ground from far flung schools and campuses.
We know from your feedback that you appreciate the work we do and our dual focus on inequality and innovation. And while we already rely on a growing network of foundations for most of our funding, we know we have thousands of dedicated readers like you who value our work and are eager to see it continue. Give today, and prove us right!

Any amount makes a difference. A large base of small donors shows our larger backers how important our work is to people like teachers and students who don’t always have a lot to give. If you can afford it though, gifts of $120 or more are especially helpful.
