Hechinger Report higher-education editor Jon Marcus appeared on the television program Chronicle on Boston ABC-TV affiliate WCVB to speak about student debt, specifically graduate loan debt, which accounts for about 40 percent of all debt even though graduate students make up only 14 percent of enrollment.
U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren told the program that debt was holding back a generation of students and, by extension, the economy, and that she would continue to push for greater flexibility for college loans.
Some New England states are at the top of the list nationally in terms of per-capita student debt. New Hampshire leads the pack, at more than $32,000.
